Navy Pier hosts the annual expo of functional ceramics, wood and ground breaking glass show case. It's a really big deal. I saw some art students flipping a coin over who takes the catalogue home first. This is like the Grammy's of Art Deco in the Chi.
If you like your art to actually do something, this is the place for you. Most of the pieces here seem to have been fabricated by sheer mind power. They seem imagined more than designed. The creations here usually take art up another notch. You can take that to the bank. You will have to take something to the bank because nothing here comes cheap. Even the food is pricey, but worth it, if you can't afford to take home permanent art. I might have to sell the farm to buy a chair. But my ass will thank me later.
